515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
www.ci.Iittle- canada.mn us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: March 21, 2014
RE: Re- establish Community Pride Committee
MAYOR
13i11 l3lesener
COUNCIL
Rick Montour
John Reis
Michael McGraw
Shelly Boss
ADMINIS'T'RATOR
Joel R. Hanson
Council Member Boss has suggested that the Council consider the re- establishment of the
Community Pride Committee. As you may recall, this Committee was originally established in
April of 1994 and focused on projects that fostered community identity and pride. These
included coordination of a City clothing line, installation of new City entrance signs, and
establishment of the Community Pride Awards Program. The Committee eventually disbanded
in the early 2000's due to a lack of members.
In 2006 the City attempted to re- establish the Committee and put an article in the April /May
edition of the newsletter. Only one interested party responded, and the decision was not to move
forward at that time.
If the Council is interested in re- establishing this Committee, I would suggest that a list of
potential focuses be identified. These could include additional focus on promoting community
identity, beautification efforts involving code enforcement and community development to cite
two examples. Once that list is developed, an article could be included in an upcoming
newsletter seeking membership.
