MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />APRIL 23, 2014 <br />ABATEMENT <br />QUOTES FOR <br />2858 <br />CENTERVILLE <br />ROAD <br />proposed Veterans Memorial park, and Alternate 2 -the installation of a <br />catch basin on McMenemy Street. <br />The Administrator reported that six bids were received with the low bid <br />submitted by ASTEC1I Corporation in the amount of $559,091.76, which <br />includes all the work described, including the two Alternates. The <br />Administrator reported that ASTECH has not done work in the City <br />before, however, the City Engineer has worked with this company and <br />feels they are a qualified and responsible bidder. <br />With regard to the Schletty Road portion of the improvement, the <br />Administrator noted that the bid is below estimate for the road <br />reconstruction portion of the project, however, the assessments for this <br />work remain the same as presented to the neighborhood as they were at <br />the City's assessment cap. The work for the watermain installation is <br />above estimate, and this portion of the proposed assessment will increase. <br />The Administrator indicated that the impacted property owners have been <br />informed of the increase and were notified of this evening's meeting at <br />which bid award would be considered. Staff has received no comments <br />from these property owners. Therefore, City staff recommends award of <br />the low bid. <br />Blesener asked about the catch basin installation proposed for MeMenemy <br />Road The Administrator estimated that the catch basin would be installed <br />approximately 400 feet south of Little Canada Road and is being installed <br />to address a drainage problem in that area of McMenemy Road. <br />Blesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2014 -4 -77 — AWARDING THE LOW BID OF <br />ASTECH CORPORATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $559,091.76 FOR <br />2014 STREET AND TRAIL IMPROVEMENTS AS RECOMMENDED <br />BY THE CITY ENGINEER <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by McGraw. <br />Ayes (3). <br />Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. <br />The City Administrator reviewed his report dated April 18, 2014 relative <br />quotes obtained for abatement of asbestos and other regulated materials at <br />2858 Centerville Road. Ten quotes were received with a wide range in <br />dollar amounts. The Administrator reported that staff is recommending <br />the abatement work be awarded to ECCO Midwest at approximately <br />$5,100 in cost.
