MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
May 14, 2014
maple trees will need to be removed. The property owner obtained a
quote, but City staff felt the cost was too high. Therefore, is
recommending approval of $1,500 for landscaping and fence materials
with City staff to do the installation.
McGraw introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2014-5-88 — AUTHORIZING LANDSCAPING
ALLOWANCES AS RECOMMENDED BY THE CITY
ADMINISTRATION IN HIS MAY 9, 2014 REPORT AS FOLLOWS:
ACOSTA PROPERTY- $1,360 TO BE REIMBURSED TO GAIL
ACOSTA UPON INSTALLATION;
334 LITTLE CANADA ROAD — UP TO $1,500 FOR LANDSCAPING
AND FENCE IMPROVEMENTS WITH CITY STAFF TO DO THE
INSTALLATION
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Blesener.
Ayes (5).
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
INFLOW AND The Public Works Superintendent reviewed his May 8, 2014 report
INFILTRATION updating the Council on inflow and infiltration issues. The Superintendent
UPDATE reported that beginning the evening of April 261h, the City received over 5
Inches of rain over a 3 -day period. Staff was able to handle some minor
flooding issues that occurred; however, the Carla Lane area had major
ground water issues that caused the Keller Lift Station to be overtaxed and
unable to stay ahead of the combined sanitary and storm sewer flows
coming into it. City staff used the Vactor and pumped down the wet well
every 4 to 6 hours for the first 4 days and a little less frequently through
Sunday, May 4111. The Superintendent thanked the public works staff for
all the extra hours they worked to keep the sewer operating in the Carla
neighborhood.
The Superintendent reported that once the groundwater inflow settled
down and lift station pumps were able to keep up with the flows, some
issues were discovered that need to be addressed. These include the fact
that the lift station wet well needs to be resized and that 2500 feet of force
main that conveys sewage to County Road B-2 is old 4 inch cast iron pipe
that is corroded and not able to carry as much sewage as it used to. This
work is budgeted for 2014. It was also discovered that some of the
manholes on Carla Lane have groundwater leaking into them. There are
two ways to make these repairs — either doing a spot repair with epoxy
17
