Sanders replied
that it will, noting that there are additional elements to be added to the
park such as additional benches, flag poles, and a War Dogs Memorial.
Sanders noted that the Committee has applied for a grant for the War
Dogs Memorial, but has not yet heard about this funding. Sanders noted
that the Phase I improvements are about 50% funded and noted that the
City has agreed to fund the parking and the sidewalk.
Vang asked when the project will be completed. Sanders indicated that
Phase I will be completed this year with the dedication ceremony planned
for Veterans Day this fall. Phase 11 improvement elements will proceed
as additional donations and funding is received.
Vang recommended approval of the Veterans Memorial Park project as
presented by the Parks Consultant and indicated the Commission's
support for the City's funding of the walkway improvement that is part of
this project.
Motion seconded by Sullivan.
Motion carried 7 — 0.
LEAH It was noted that prior to this evening's meeting the Park Commission
BROECHER did a parks tour and discussed use of the Leah Broecher donation to
DONATION Spooner Park.
TO
SPOONER Bill Sanders presented a plan for use of the $5,000 Broecher donation
PARK which included reforestation of the wooded area in the northwest corner
of Spooner Park. He indicated that this area was a farm at one time and
that there are remnants of the old farmstead in that area. He suggested
that a future addition to this area could be a bench and an interpretative
sign at the former driveway location for the farm. Additional
improvements that Sanders reviewed to be funded by the Broecher
donation include replacement of a deteriorating bench along the trail and
installation of an interpretative sign. Sanders indicated the goal is to have
benches equally spaced along the trail in Spooner Park that abuts the
creek area.
Maida noted that at its April 3`d meeting, the Commission approved the
following:
2
