MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 25, 2014
Boss asked if Voodoo Live would be open for lunch and dinner.
Miranowski indicated that they do not want to be open for lunch and do
not want to compete with the other restaurant businesses in the area. The
dinner menu they are proposing would be Cajun and the restaurant would
open at 3:00 p.m. on weekdays and 11:00 a.m. on weekends. If an On -
Sale Restaurant License is required, the restaurant would have to be open
every day from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. Miranowski indicated that
Voodoo Live would have 75 live music events each year offering different
types of music.
Blesener noted that the submittal indicates that second tier bands would be
features, which he felt would mean louder bands. Miranowski indicated
that they would be spending $2.5 million to renovate and soundproof the
space.
Blesener did not feel the location proposed was acceptable for this
business. Miranowski and John Miles, Miles Group, indicated that the
space proposed would be from the Donut Hut space to the east end of the
building.
Keis again asked the number of live music events that would be held.
Miranowski indicated 75 to 100 per year. Tickets would be sold on-line.
Keis asked about seating capacity. Miranowski stated that he was not sure
at this point as the space has not been completely designed out. He also
noted that the space available for events will depend on the size of the
kitchen that they will need if an On -Sale Restaurant License is required.
Keis noted that 100 events equates to 2 per week and asked if these events
would be on weekends. Miranowski replied that it would depend on the
availability of the bonds. Bands would be booked 3 to 4 months in
advance.
Boss indicated that there is no other Cajun food in the area, so she was not
sure that this type of restaurant would compete with other restaurants in
the area. Boss stated that her concern was that the husiness would start
out as a restaurant but would change into a bar.
Keis indicated that he would be more supportive of a restaurant husiness
that had 15 or 20 live music events per year rather than one with 100 live
music events. Boss stated that she cannot envision a music event in that
location and the resulting parking need. Blesener again pointed out the
senior housing immediately to the north as well as other residential
housing in the area. The City Administrator noted some of the issues that
the City has experienced in the past with Bangkok as well as Mingles
relative to crowd control, parking, noise, and security issues.
16
