MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 25, 2014
BUSINESS FOR MOST OF THAT TIME,AND LIMITING THE SUP
TO ONE PART-TIME EMPLOYEE WITH WORKING HOURS TO
OCCUR BETWEEN 8 A.M. AND 8 P.M.
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Boss.
Ayes (4).
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
AMEND PUD — Blesener opened the Public IIearing to consider a request for Amendment
3201 to Planned Unit Development for additional retail space as well as sign
COUNTRY and display changes for 3201 Country Drive, Hom Furniture. It was noted
DRIVE — that the Planning Commission recommended approval of the PUD
HOM amendment. Blesener indicated that his only concern with the request
FURNITURE relates to light pole banner signs.
The City Planner reviewed the history of the property at 3201 Country
Drive noting that it originally operated as a Levitz Furniture store and
warehouse. The property was purchased by Hom Furniture and the City
approved a PUD Zone relative to their Dock 86 concept which operated as
a part-time furniture retail outlet and a warehouse. The PUD specified a
series of regulations specific to this property. Hom has now made
application to Amend the PUD to all for a full-time operation which will
consist of Gabberts, Hom, and Dock 86. The majority of the space will be
retail and a limited amount of warehouse space. There will be a small
dock area added to the west side of the building for customer pick-up and
two dock doors will remain at the northwest corner of the building.
The Planner then reviewed the specific changes to the PUD being
requested by Hom. The first related to temporary signage. The Planner
noted that currently Dock 86 is allowed 200 square feet of temporary
signage over a period of 65 days. They are requesting that the 200 square
feet remain, but would like an increase to 120 days, which would be
shared by the three entities. Hom is also requesting a waiver of the
temporary sign restriction during construction to identify the building and
inform the general public of employment opportunities.
The next request related to search lights. The current PUD provides for 20
days of search light usage over 10 weekends. Hom is asking to retain the
20 days, but allow the usage any day of the week.
The next request relates to light pole signs. The current PUD does not
have a provision addressing this type of signage. The Planner noted that
Hom is requesting permission to use banners on light poles.
5
