MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
AUGUST 14, 2014
The Planner indicated that the primary concern relates to land use
compatibility issues given the site is bounded by senior housing
approximately 30 feet from the property line of this site which result in
outdoor land use impacts. There is also residential property to the south
and northeast.
The Planner indicated that the applicant is suggesting that because the
Voodoo Live use will be primarily night time use, the bulk of the parking
can be accomplished on site. The applicant has indicated that there will be
contracts in place for off-site parking.
The Planner indicated that given the night time activities with this use,
there is the potential for a lot of outdoor activities that result in lights and
noise. The Planner indicated that his concern is that the use is not
compatible with the adjacent residential uses. The Planner indicated that it
would be difficult to screen and buffer the north end of this property from
the adjacent senior housing.
'l'he Planner noted that in his report he has provided findings for denial of
the PUD Permit if the Commission's position is that this land use is not
compatible with the area. If the Commission would like to give the PLD
Permit request further consideration, the Planner noted that he has listed
additional information that, at a minimum, would he necessary before City
staff would feel comfortable in making a recommendation.
Fischer asked that the applicant walk through a typical week at Voodoo
Live, including hours of operation for both dining and events.
Mike Miranowski reported that he would be the General Manager of
Voodoo Live if the applications are approved. Miranowski indicated that
on a typical day the business would open at 11 a.m. and would close at 2
a.m. Food service would continue throughout the day, with full service
ending at 10 p.m. and a lighter menu from 10 p.m. until midnight. The
menu would be Cajun with some other choices as well. He also noted that
in addition to the restaurant -bar -live music venue uses, areas of the facility
would be able to be partitioned off and could be rented for dinners and
parties.
With regard to an event night, Miranowski indicated that tickets could be
purchased on-line for an event, and based on sales, Voodoo Live would
know how many security people would be necessary. EPG Security
would be hired to perform security functions from checking ID's at the
door, taking tickets, issuing wrist bands to indicate people of drinking age.
Miranowski reported that he has done 250 events with EPG with
- 10 -
