MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
AUGUST 14, 2014
possible to work through the issues and indicated that Little Canada is pro-
business. Barraclough noted the large investment that is proposed for this
property. He also indicated that he felt the business plan submitted was
not well prepared and he does not have enough information to make a
recommendation.
Fischer indicated that while he has not owned a live music venue, he has
lived without 100 yards of one. Fischer indicated the negative impact that
noise had on the residential properties in his previous neighborhood.
Fischer indicated that 500 energized people leaving a live music event will
generate a great deal of noise, and he did not see a way that that issue
could be addressed. Fischer felt that Voodoo Live would be a victim of its
own success in this regard. Fischer stated that he did not want to see
people in the area up at night because of the noise generated when an
event lets out, and also felt that train noise was not the same as the noise
that Voodoo Live would cause. With regard to the comparison with The
Myth and off -premise parking arrangements, etc., Fischer indicated that
The Myth is in a much more commercial area. Fischer stated that his
concerns centered on noise issues after events.
Miranowski indicated that they would likely hold 65 live music events per
year, leaving 300 days of the year without these events. He then indicated
between 50 and 75 live music events per year and noted that some months
there may be only 1 or 2 live music events.
Fischer stated that he liked the restaurant/bar concept, but pointed out that
this would be a different clientele than those attending the live music
events. Fischer pointed out the issues of patrons leaving a live music
event anytime between midnight and 2 a.m. when people in the
neighborhood are trying to sleep.
Maleitzke felt those residential neighbors should be here representing
themselves. Maleitzke indicated that she felt the use would be O.K., and
felt it was an interesting concept. Maleitzke agreed that there was more
work to be done.
Miranowski indicated that they held a neighborhood meeting on Tuesday
and had a good response. One neighbor from across the street asked if
there would be a patio out front. Miranowski indicated that that individual
appears satisfied when he learned that there would not be. Miranowski
indicated that a patio would just take up needed parking. He also noted
that they are dealing with the issue of where to cite an outdoor smoking
area.
- 16 -
