MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
SEPTEMBER 10, 2014
those that will be converted to tile (front lobby, hall, and corridor). There
was consensus that carpet replacement is necessary as proposed.
Next reviewed was the installation of new porcelain floor and base at
vestibule, lobby, hall, and corridor at an estimated cost of $32,000. There
was some discussion on the durability of porcelain, with the Construction
Manager indicated that while cracking or damage could occur, it was
unlikely. He also indicated that the City would be left with some extra
tiles for future replacements, if necessary. There was consensus to
proceed with final estimates for this work.
The Administrator noted that at the staff meeting on the City Center
remodel, the Building Official noted that the hallway in the office area is
uneven. The Construction Manager indicated that there are products that
would be used to even out the floor, and he would obtain quotes for this
work. The Administrator also noted that in the lobby area where the
addition to the City Center meets the old building, there is unevenness in
the floor. The Construction Manager indicated that it would be possible to
grind the floor level, and he would ensure that this is done when the new
flooring is installed.
Next reviewed was the proposal for new porcelain floors and ceramic tile
walls and base in the lounge and four bathrooms at a preliminary estimate
of $33,200. The Administrator noted that City staff was split on the
necessity of these improvements related to the non-public bathrooms,
except that there was agreement that the countertops in these bathrooms
should be replaced at a minimum. With regard to the public bathrooms,
there was some discussion about retaining the existing wall tiles as a cost-
saving measure. The City Clerk asked if either painting or replacement of
toilet partitions in the public bathrooms was included in this work scope.
The Construction Manager replied that neither was included. It was the
consensus of the Council that an estimate for replacement of these toilet
partitions be obtained, and in doing so, the Architect look at the door
alignment as the current doors conflict with one another. The Clerk asked
about sinks for the bathrooms and whether the countertop/sinks were one
molded unit or separate. The Construction Manager was not sure, but
would cheek. The consensus of the Council was that when estimates are
obtained that the various components be estimated separately so that the
City has the ability to choose which elements it wants to proceed with. It
was also suggested that when City staff meets with the Architect's
designer and an evaluation be done on whether or not it is feasible to
retain the existing wall tiles in the public bathrooms.
Next reviewed was media center base cabinet, countertop, shelves, and
new countertops in lounge and four bathrooms at a preliminary estimated
3
