MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MARCH 11, 2015
events are initiated by outside parties. Fischer asked stated that his
concern was that the event hall did not sponsor night club events in the
situation where it may not get enough rentals for weddings, banquets, etc.
Keis noted that if a new liquor license category is established, the City can
put some controls in place to address that concern.
McGraw stated that in reviewing the business plan for the event hall it
seemed that 60 events per year were what were anticipated. McGraw
asked if Sonnack would object to a limit on the number of events that the
event hall could host as a condition of the liquor license. Sonnack stated
that they had not objection, but indicated that an extremely low number
would make it difficult to be successful. Montour asked how many events
Eventi Bella had in a year. Dave Toski, Eventi Bella, indicated that they
had just less than 40 events per year and that there average attendance was
250 people. He indicated that he is currently working with the property
owner and JJ's Hospitality to finish out the events that Eventi Bella has
booked.
Torkelson asked if Vitale has noticed any parking problems at the
shopping center for a larger event that may take place on a Saturday
evening. Vitale responded that that was difficult to say at this point as he
just started his event business this past November.
Keis noted staff's recommendation that the City Attorney should draft an
ordinance amendment if the direction is to move forward with a third class
of on -sale liquor license. The City Clerk reported that that was correct and
pointed out the conditions that staff has suggested be attached to a new
license category. She asked if the Council was in agreement with these
conditions and if they had any addition conditions.
McGraw stated that he was not comfortable acting on this matter this
evening and agreed that it should go back to the City Attorney for drafting
of an ordinance amendment. Keis agreed. McGraw asked Sonnack for his
reaction to the conditions that staff is recommending. Sonnack felt the
conditions suggested could be met. He indicated that JJ's Hospitality
wants to work with the City and be good business citizens.
Keis introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2015-3-47 — TABLING ACTION ON A LIQUOR
ORDINANCE TEXT AMENDMENT AND THE APPLICATION BY
JJ'S HOSPITALITY FOR ON -SALE LIQUOR LICENSE, SUNDAY
LIQUOR LICENSE, AND 2 A.M. LIQUOR LICENSE UNTIL THE
MARCH 25, 2015 COUNCIL MEETING
8
