Sanders recommended
the requirement of a 15 -foot trail easement in addition to the standard park
charge that this development would be responsible for.
Maida asked how the City utilizes park charge dollars, asking if these dollars
could be used to connect this trail to the existing trail in the area. Sanders
indicated that park charge dollars go into the Park Dedication Fund, but it
could be possible to use the dollars for a trail connection.
Miller asked who would be responsible for trail maintenance. The Parks &
Rec Director indicated that once a trail is dedicated to the City, the City
becomes responsible for its maintenance.
There was additional discussion of the trail width, with Johnson proposing a
6 to 8 foot wood chip trail. The Commission's consensus was that the trail
easement would need to be 15 foot wide. Johnson stated that they would like
the flexibility of placing the trail easement in the same area as the sewer
easement if that proves possible. Sanders indicated that that was a
reasonable approach, but noted that easement dedications would have to be
specific to each use.
Fahey recommended that the City require a 15 -foot trail easement as part of
the Black Tern Addition senior development, including the improvement of
an 8 -foot wood chip trail, and informing the developer that this trail
easement and trail improvement is in addition to the standard park dedication
fee that would be required by Code.
Motion seconded by Darling.
Motion carried 6 — 0.
KEVIN The Director reported that Kevin Steinert has informed him that he is moving
STEINERT out of the City; therefore, he is submitting his resignation from the Parks &
RESIGNATION Recreation Commission.
ICE CREAM The Director noted that Kevin Steinert has coordinated the ice cream social
SOCIAL for the past several years. He asked if the Commission wanted to continue
with the ice cream social, and, if so, was there a member who would take
over the coordination of the entertainment. The Director indicated that he
has coordinated with Culver's the refreshments for the event.
The Commission felt that the ice cream social was a worthwhile event to
continue, noting that it is very well attended.
