MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />MAY 7, 2015 <br />PIONEER PARK <br />PONDING — <br />EDUCATIONAL <br />PLAQUES <br />BROECKER <br />MEMORIAL <br />FRIENDS OF <br />THE PARK <br />TREE <br />DONATION <br />REGISTRATIONS <br />MARKET PLACE <br />Sullivan noted that Rocky Waite of the Veterans Committee brought the <br />suggestion to Huot. Sullivan felt that the canopy would benefit the Veterans <br />Memorial Park. She indicated that she liked the lattice structure over the <br />table, and she felt the project was not detrimental to the park. Fahey agreed. <br />Miller recommended concept approval of the lattice canopy over the picnic <br />table in Veterans Memorial Park with the understanding that the Commission <br />would have to review and approve the final plans for the project contingent <br />on the City Council's approval of the project as well as the Council's <br />consideration of providing any or all funding for the project, and authorizing <br />the Director to sign Huot's paperwork that will be submitted to the Boy <br />Scout Council indicating concept approval of the project. <br />Motion seconded by Darling. <br />Motion carried 6 — 0. <br />Vang clarified to Huot that there is still the potential that the project may be <br />rejected by the City. <br />The Director reported that the City Engineer is working with the Watershed <br />on educational plaques for Pioneer Park relative to a description of the <br />environmental benefits provided by the swale and drainage area in the Park. <br />Sanders indicated that after discussion of the reforestation plan for Spooner <br />Park that is proposed as part of the Broecker donation, he felt the first step <br />would be to do buckthorn removal and clean up within the wooded area in <br />the northwest corner of the Park. He suggested that it may be possible to <br />move forward with some tree planting in the fall, although some species <br />would need to be planted in the spring. <br />Sanders reported that the City received donations of five trees through the <br />Friends of the Parks Program. One of the donations was specifically <br />requested to be planted in Rondeau Park. Sanders recommended that all <br />five trees be planted in Rondeau Park. The Director reported that once <br />planted, Friends of the Parks will be notified of the location of the plantings, <br />and, in turn, will notify those making the donations. <br />The Director reported that registrations are currently being taken for Archery <br />Lessons, Firearm Safety Class, and a new program called Fishing Fun. <br />The Director reported that the May 13th Market Place Morning Talks will <br />7 <br />
