MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 11, 2015
discuss these issues. With regard to noise, Strub indicated that the effort
will be to keep the noise isolated to the games. There is still concern
about noise levels and Strub indicated that the issue was discussed at
length, but people realize it is not possible to have silence during the
games. Strub reported that the Gordies' property has now been tidied up
and it looks better than it has in years. He stated that the additional trees
will also help improve the appearance of the property. Strub reported that
telephone numbers have been exchanged, and this will help with the
communications issue. Strub stated that a lot of concerns have been
addressed, and he strongly supports Gordies and is not interested in
putting them out of business.
Keis indicated that in meeting with the Cossacks, the issue of noise was
discussed, and while the noise cannot be eliminated, there will be efforts
to remind patrons to keep the noise down and to use appropriate language.
Keis encourages residents of Fleur Royale to contact Gordies with any
concerns or complaints.
Keis noted that at the last Council meeting there was discussion that if an
approval is granted, a review period should be established so that the
Council can hear from Fleur Royale residents if there are any problems or
concerns. Keis suggested that a review period at the end of the summer
may be timely. He also noted that Tom Cossack has indicated that the
Council is welcomed to visit the site to make their own observations at
any time. Montour also pointed out that the City reviews liquor license
renewals in either May or June of each year.
Fischer reported that he has participated in the horseshoe league at
Gordies' on Wednesday nights. He indicated that a lot of what Gordies' is
requesting is already happening. He noted that alcohol is being consumed
in the outdoor recreation area, and stated that his observation is that all the
alcohol is coming from the bar. Fischer reported that participants do bring
coolers into the outdoor recreation area, but these coolers contain food
since Gordies has allowed them to barbeque on occasion. Fischer reported
that the horseshoe participants do get loud and that the language crosses
the boundaries from time to time. He also indicated that he has seen
people urinating at the back of the rink. With regard to music, Fischer
stated that it is not loud and music is not piped through speakers. Fischer
pointed out that Kim Cossack has indicated that she is present at all
outdoor recreation events. Fischer stated that he has never seen her at
horseshoes and had never seen her at all until the Planning Commission
meeting. Fischer indicated that Gordies has typically had one employee
working most nights that horseshoes are being played. Fischer stated that
he is glad that the issues raised by Fleur Royale are being worked through.
4
