MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 23, 2007
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Keis.
Ayes (5).
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
CUP FOR Mayor Blesener opened the Public Hearing to consider the application of
GARAGE - Lloyd Johnson, 2930 Edgerton Street, for a Conditional Use Permit to
2930 construct a detached garage consisting of 280 square feet in addition to the
EDGERTON existing attached garage, for total garage area of 809 square feet. The City
STREET - Planner and the Planning Commission recommended approval of the CUP
JOHNSON subject to compliance with the recommendations of the City Planner as
outlined in his report dated May 3, 2007.
The City Planner reported that Conditional Use Permits are required for
garage area in the 1,000 square foot to 1,500 square foot range as well as
for second garage structures. Mr. Johnson is requesting a CUP for a
second garage, and the Planner noted that total garage space will be under
the 1,000 square foot threshold. The City Planner noted that the lot is
almost an acre in size, and the proposed garage is the size of a single car
garage. Therefore, the garage is well within the 10% limitation on rear
yard coverage. The Planner also noted that the garage will be constructed
with materials and colors similar to the house. The garage will be used for
residential storage.
Mrs. Johnson acknowledged that the proposed garage is for additional
storage space for items such as lawn equipment.
Montour noted that the garage will likely not be seen from Edgerton
Street. Johnson replied that that is correct. Montour noted that other
structures in the area have hip roofs, while this structure will have a gable
roof. Montour felt that was not an issue, however, since the garage will
not be seen from the street.
There was no one else from the general public present wishing to
comment on this matter.
Upon motion by Blesener, seconded by McGraw, the public hearing was
closed.
Mr. McGraw introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2007-S-I23 -APPROVING THE CONDITIONAL
USE PERMIT TO CONSTRUCT A DETACHED GARAGE
CONSISTING OF 280 SQUARE FEET, INADDITION TO THE
EXISTING ATTACHED GARAGE, FOR A TOTAL GARAGE AREA
OF 809 SQUARE FEET AS REQUESTED BYLLOYD JOHNSON,
