MINUTES <br />Parks & Recreation Commission <br />June 7, 2007 <br />Fahey recommended increasing the residential park dedication fees as suggested by city staff <br />in their memo dated May 3l, 2007 with the understanding that this fee will be reviewed <br />annually along wit{z the park shelter fees. <br />Motion seconrlerl by Davis. <br />Motion carried 7- 0. <br />ICE CREAM Pechman announced that the Director has talked to Sue Nelson of Canadian Days about the <br />SOCIAL ice cream social. Sue has agreed to publish information advertising the social along with their <br />information on Canadian Days. However, Pechman believed that the Canadian Days <br />Committee would prefer we hold our event on the Thursday before Canadian Days rather than <br />during Canadian Days so that it won't conflict with the events they have scheduled. The <br />Commission appreciated Canadian Days' willingness to publish information and agreed that the <br />ice cream social should be held on Thursday, August 2. <br />Pechman stated that the manager of the A&W Root Beer stopped in a few days ago to state that <br />he was interested in donating the ice cream and root beer again for this year's event. Steinert <br />stated that he will talk to the Sheriffls Department about scheduling a K-9 demonstration. <br />Pechman stated that she will try to get someone to do some face painting and wacky hairdos as <br />new events this year. Advertising will be done on flyers, by email, on our website, and on <br />Cable Channel 16. Pechman stated that she will bring flyers to the next Commission meeting <br />for members to distribute to local businesses. <br />MAPLEWOOD Sanders stated plans and specs are now finished for the Maplewood trail connection. <br />TRAIL Advertisement for bids will go out shortly. He stated that he did submit an application <br />CONNECTION for the $30,000 Active Living Grant through Blue Cross/Blue Shield for planning of the <br />bikeway proposal as was discussed at last month's meeting. <br />MASTER Sanders stated that he did not have an update on the Master Plan yet. However, he reported <br />PLAN that there is currently $580,000 in the Park Dedication Fund. These funds have been earmarked <br />for purchasing the properties on the north side of Round Lake. <br />SKATEBRD Mans reported that the location for the skateboard park at the Old Fire Hall has been marked by <br />PARK city staff. However, we are still waiting on the St. Paul Water Department to locate their water <br />mains. Once this has been done, we can move forward with this project. He encouraged <br />Commission members to visit some of the skateboard parks in the meh•o area. Pechman stated <br />that she has pictures of the skateboard park in Chisago City that she would email to all <br />Commissioners for their information. <br />JULY Mans stated that due to the 4`n of July holiday, the July Commission meeting may need to <br />MEETING be changed. After some discussion, the Commissioners decided to reschedule the July 5`n <br />meeting to July 17`n and cancel the August meeting due to the Ice Cream Social being scheduled <br />on the same night. <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />
