MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
JUNE 14, 2007
Socha asked if French were willing to eliminate more of the concrete.
French stated that his proposal is designed to reduce the amount of walking
he has to do, and felt the plan he submitted was the most logical and
economical plan.
Knudsen asked if there is a back door to the house. French replied that
there was, but noted that parking on the front drive and carrying groceries
into the house was the shortest route. French again pointed out that the area
is very mixed relative to house and driveway layouts.
Pechmann suggested that it would appear that if the driveway were moved
to the north property line, the walk from the driveway to the front door
would be shorter or close to the same distance. French estimated the
distance at about 7 or 8 feet longer. French indicated that in remodeling his
home, he is trying to make his home more senior citizen compatible.
Duray stated that he visited the site and would agree with Mr. French that
locating the driveway to the south property line would be difficult given the
existing grade. He also noted that locating the driveway to the north
property line results in the need to relocate the existing culvert. Duray
agreed that the plan presented by French appears to be the most logical.
Peter Kline, 2996 Edgerton Street, indicated that he owns the property just
north of Mr. French. Kline stated that he did not support the garage being
moved to the north as it would block his view. Kline stated that he was in
support of placement of the garage to the south as proposed by Mr. French.
He also indicated that having the driveway cross the front yard was not a
problem for him. Kline indicated that his driveway was located on his
south property line.
Carol Quick, 3001 Payne Avenue, questioned the size of the house in
relationship to the 1,500 square foot garage. French reported that his house
is currently 1,056 square feet and when he remodels into his existing
garage, another 700 square feet will be added to the house. French pointed
out that the 1,500 square foot garage is smaller than the foundation size of
his home.
Quick stated that her concern was that potentially there could be a number
of larger garages constructed on the Edgerton properties. Quick was
concerned about the appearance of such a line of garages from the Payne
Avenue properties. Quick expressed concern with a 1,500 square foot
garage and the potential that a business would be operated from that garage.
-6-
