MINUTIiS
CITY COUNCIL
MARCH 26, 2008
Blesener summarized the recommendations of the City Planner and the
Planning Commission with regard to these zoning requests.
The City Planner reported that in the Spring of 2007, Temo Sum•ooms was
granted a PUD Permit to allow a display gazebo on their property from
March I st through October 31st of each year. They were also granted a
PUD Permit to construct agarage/dumpster enclosure structure of not
more than 800 square feet in size at the rear of their property contingent
upon removal of the existing trash enclosure prior to construction of the
new garage/trash enclosure. "The Planner reported that the new
garage/dumpster enclosure has not been constructed, and the gazebo was
not removed from the property during the winter months.
The Planner indicated that the applicant is now requesting that the gazebo
be allowed as a permanent display as well as requesting outdoor storage of
an unscreened commercial dumpster and three unscreened display trailers.
Additionally, Temo Sunroom is requesting approval of a Comprehensive
Sign Plan required for multi-tenant buildings and a Text Amendment to
provide for a third massage therapy business license.
The Planner then reviewed her March 20, 2008 and March 6, 2008 reports
in detail.
Bob Mietta, Temo Sunrooms, indicated that he has been storing his
display trailers in the parking lot on his property and was surprised when
the City asked that he remove the trailers. Mietta reported that he has a $1
million building with 82 parking spaces, and he was taken aback when he
was told that he could not park these trailers in his parking lot. Mietta
reported that during the summer months, these trailers are seldom at the
site since they are displayed at various Home Depot and Sam's Club
stores. During the winter months, however, they would be at the Temo
Sunroom site. Mietta reported that he would like to utilize his parking lot
to store the two display trailers he has and would likely be adding a third.
Mietta reported that he has also requested the ability to store a commercial
dumpster on his site from time-to-time. However, after the discussion at
the Planning Commission meeting, and recognizing the concerns of
neighboring residents, Mietta indicated that he is withdrawing his request
for the dumpster.
With regard to the gazebo, Mietta stated that there was some initial
concern from neighbors. Mietta felt now that the gazebo has been up for a
period of time, the neighbors view it as a compliment to the property.
Therefore, he is requesting that the gazebo be allowed as a permanent
structure. Mietta reported that given his current business climate, he was
