MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MARCH 26, 2008
unable to get the garage built and did not have storage space in his
warehouse for the gazebo.
Mietta noted that he is requesting approval of a Comprehensive Sign Plan
given he is bringing another tenant into his building. Mietta reviewed the
recommendations of the City Planner with regard to this sign and
requested that he be exempted from the requirements for amonument-
style sign consh•ucted with masonry materials, or similar, consistent with
the building. Mietta cited the additional cost of this type of sign. He felt
that the sign he would construct would be attractive and would be nicely
landscaped.
Mietta reported that his wife would like to locate a health and wellness
business in his building offering a variety of services, including massage
therapy. There are currently only two massage therapy business licenses
allowed in the City, and Mietta noted that he has requested the City amend
its code to allow three.
Blesener noted that last spring the Council discussed the issue of outdoor
storage with Mr. Mietta, and this was the reason that a PUD Permit was
approved for an up to 800 square foot garage/trash enclosure structure.
That garage was to be used to provide Mr. Mietta with additional indoor
storage space. Mietta stated that he did not recall discussing the display
trailers at that time, and was caught off guard when he was informed that
he could not store these in his parking lot. Blesener noted that it was
discussed that the small dumpster currently being stored outside was to be
moved into this garage/dumpster enclosure.
Mietta reported on the economic downturn that his business is being faced
with. In an attempt to keep people employed, Mietta indicated that he has
not been able to construct the garage. He again indicated that he was not
aware that he could not park his display trailers in his parking lot.
McGraw asked how long Mietta has had the trailers. Mietta reported that
he has owned them since 2002. He purchased the property on Country
Drive in 2006. Mietta reported that the trailers have been stored on the
property since that time and have not been raised as an issue until recently.
Blesener noted that the Planning Commission is recommending that the
display trailers be allowed on the property until October 31, 2008. Mietta
indicated that if he cannot store the trailers on the property beyond that
date, he would try to rent space elsewhere to store them. Mietta stated that
he had a hard time justifying renting space and not being able to use his
parking lot for this storage.
