MINUTtuS
CITY COUNCIL
MARCH 26, 2008
McGraw asked if Mietta researched the outdoor storage issue when he
purchased his property. Mietta replied that he did not. He also indicated
that he purchased the property with what he thought was a garage in the
back, and has since learned that this structure is a dumpster enclosure.
Blesener asked if the display trailers could be stored inside if Mr. Mietta
was not leasing part of the building to another business. Mietta replied
that the wellness business will take up office space and not warehouse
space. Blesener asked if there is room in the warehouse for the trailers.
Mietta replied that there may be room for one, but not both. Mietta
reported that there was no room in the dumpster enclosure and he did not
think the doors were wide enough anyway. Keis asked what is being
stored in the dumpster enclosure. Mietta replied that it is full of building
materials. Blesener pointed out that when the City granted approval for
the larger garage (which has not yet been built), it was with the
understanding that the smaller dumpster will have to be moved inside.
Blesener stated that the Council could follow the recommendations of the
Planning Commission, but it was his gut feeling that the issue would be
back before the Council in the fall. Mietta stated that he informed the
Planning Commission that if he could not store the display trailers outside
after October 31, 2008, he would find rental space for them. He again
noted that the display trailers would seldom be at the property in the
summer.
Keis stated that one of his concerns is that these issues were discussed last
year, and they are again before the Council Keis stated that he would feel
better if Mr. Mietta had taken down the gazebo as he had agreed to, and
questioned what will happen in another year. Mietta stated that he could
not say what will happen in the future. Mietta felt that both his intentions
and track record have been good. He again indicated that he is trying to
keep a lot of people employed, and business economics did not allow him
to conshuct the garage/dumpster enclosure. He indicated that he lost $2
million in business this past year.
The City Administrator reviewed the approvals that were granted to Mr.
Mietta in 2007. He further noted that the display trailers would be
considered outdoor storage and would not be allowed to take up required
parking. Parking requirements are based on building size.
Keis asked about signage. Mietta stated that he would put up the same
style sign as is on the building and is agreeable to having lighter text on a
dark background.
Blesener asked about a massage therapy business in a PUD District. The
City Planner replied that this is an acceptable use in the PUD District. The
4
