STAFF ORIGINATOR: COUNCIL MEETING DATE: TOPIC: AGENDA 1'I'EM 5A Rick DeGardner, Public Services Director February 8, 2016 Consider Resolution No. 16-07, Awarding Bid for Water Tower #1 Reconditioning Project VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority BACKGROUND: The City Council approved the plans and specifications and authorized advertisement for bids at the December 28, 2015 City Council meeting. The bid opening was conducted on Feb 3, 2016 at City Hall. Three bids were received: Contractor's Name M.K. Painting, Inc. TMI Coatings, Inc. Classic Protective Coatings Inc. Total Base Bid $ 926,250 $ 936,625 $1,297,950 Deduct #1* $2,000 $9,000 $0 *For single color logo The bid forms of each bidder were reviewed for conformance and accuracy and were found to be in order with the exception of one mathematical error by TMI Coatings, Inc. The low bidder was M.K. Painting, Inc. with a total base bid amount of $926,250 (Engineer's estimate was $1,000,000). We recommend to not accept Alternate #1, thereby resulting in the painting of two colored City logos on opposing sides of the tank. KLM Engineering has worked with M.K. Painting, Inc. on 6-8 projects over the past several years, and we are confident they will perform satisfactorily. Funding for this project is from the Water Operating Fund.
