CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 5A <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Rick DeGardner, Public Services Director <br />MEETING DATE: December 12, 2016 <br />TOPIC: Consider Resolution No. 16-171, Approving LED Retrofit Project <br />for Civic Complex <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br />INTRODUCTION <br />The Lino Lakes Public Services Department is requesting council approval to convert all interior <br />lighting fixtures at the Civic Complex (City Hall, Police Department, New Creations), excluding <br />the Council Chambers, from fluorescent lighting to LED (Light -emitting diode) lighting. <br />BACKGROUND <br />There are many advantages of LED lighting including: <br />• More energy efficient - The low power consumption leads to significant energy savings, <br />approximately $7,000 per year for the Civic Complex <br />• Longer lifetime <br />• Less maintenance <br />• More durable - Made of solid material with no filament or tube or bulb to break <br />• Excellent Color Rendering - Does not wash out colors like fluorescents <br />• Environmentally friendly - Contains no mercury or other hazardous substances <br />The project quote prepared by Meridian Energy Products is $33,736. X -Cel Energy is providing <br />$10,236 in rebates, resulting in a net total project cost of $23,500. Funding is available from the <br />Building Facilities Fund. With estimated annual energy savings of $7,057, the projected pay back <br />is 34 months. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends the Council approve Resolution No. 16-171, Approving the LED Retrofit <br />Project for the Civic Complex. <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />Meridian Energy Products Project Analysis Sheet (Dated November 16, 2016) <br />
