CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM 5A STAFF ORIGINATOR: Rick DeGardner, Public Services Director MEETING DATE: December 12, 2016 TOPIC: Consider Resolution No. 16-171, Approving LED Retrofit Project for Civic Complex VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 INTRODUCTION The Lino Lakes Public Services Department is requesting council approval to convert all interior lighting fixtures at the Civic Complex (City Hall, Police Department, New Creations), excluding the Council Chambers, from fluorescent lighting to LED (Light -emitting diode) lighting. BACKGROUND There are many advantages of LED lighting including: • More energy efficient - The low power consumption leads to significant energy savings, approximately $7,000 per year for the Civic Complex • Longer lifetime • Less maintenance • More durable - Made of solid material with no filament or tube or bulb to break • Excellent Color Rendering - Does not wash out colors like fluorescents • Environmentally friendly - Contains no mercury or other hazardous substances The project quote prepared by Meridian Energy Products is $33,736. X -Cel Energy is providing $10,236 in rebates, resulting in a net total project cost of $23,500. Funding is available from the Building Facilities Fund. With estimated annual energy savings of $7,057, the projected pay back is 34 months. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends the Council approve Resolution No. 16-171, Approving the LED Retrofit Project for the Civic Complex.
