City of Lino Lakes
Park Board Meeting
February 5, 1996
flower beds, do park cleanups twice a year, and watch over
the parks.
Jean Briggs said the girls enjoyed participating in the pro-
gram this year. She said it was a big help that the city
put down woodchips in Lino Park. She expressed her hope
that the girls would continue to do this program as they get
older.
Marty then presented awards to the Schmidt and McEathron
families. He explained that these two families adopted Sun-
rise Park. Their contract included the responsibilities of
taking care of the trees, shrubs, and flowers by the Sunrise
Park sign and cleaning the park of debris twice during the
year.
Marty then turned the mike over to George for a presentation
to Ken Johnson for his 18 years of service on the Park
Board. George said Ken was truly going to be missed on the
board because of his extensive historic knowledge.
Marty thanked Ken and told him it was a pleasure to have
worked with him.
Ken said he has enjoyed working with the people that have
been on the board and it has been fun. However, he feels it
is time to step down and to get new people involved on the
Park Board: He will be willing to help if called upon.
UPDATES AND OLD BUSINESS:
Athletic Complex: Marty gave background information and a
recap on the athletic complex. He then introduced Jon Gur-
ban, Executive Director, Minnesota Recreation and Park Asso-
ciation (MRPA). Jon was invited to come before the board to
speak about recreation complexes and answer questions on
referendums, fundings and needs.
Jon began his presentation by handing out an information
sheet telling what the MRPA organization is. He said they
are a non-profit association. Their mission is to help pro-
vide the best park and recreation services possible,
throughout Minnesota.
2
