<br />5/29/2019 28 <br /> <br />PUBLIC EDUCATION AND ASSISTANCE (A2) <br /> <br />Staff coordinates environmental education and offers programs in schools and courses to the <br />general public. Staff provides information to the public via handouts and the city website. Staff <br />coordinates and participates in city events such as Earth Day, Recycling Day, and Arbor Day. <br />This department also assists the public with a variety of issues including disease control, storm <br />water pond quality, water quality improvements, native plantings, rain gardens, and weed <br />control. <br /> <br />TASKS <br />A2.1 EARTH DAY <br /> Start making contact with Wargo Nature Center at the end of the calendar year to <br />start planning Earth Day. <br />A2.2 ARBOR DAY <br /> Start making contact with, either, Lino Lakes Elementary and/or Rice Lake <br />Elementary after the first of the year. (If they want DNR trees, order them when the <br />notice comes out). Get a large tree to plant, make sure there is proclamation and <br />agenda. Invite Mayor. <br />A2.3 CITY NEWSLETTER <br /> Spring/Summer: Stormwater article <br />Fall: Stormwater article, tree sale information article <br />Winter: Stormwater article, tree sale information article <br />A2.4 STORMWATER <br /> Routinely promote stormwater education through visiting schools, Earth Day, Arbor <br />Day, City Newsletter, and all other forms of media. <br /> <br />Work with Boy Scout and other service institutions to implement annual storm drain <br />stenciling program. Goal is to mark 200 catch basins annually. <br />A2.5 WETLANDS <br /> Wetlands are a unique and very abundant resource in Lino lakes. Many calls come in <br />to ask what can be done in and around wetlands. Work with the Rice Creek <br />Watershed District Technical Evaluation Panel (RCWD TEP) on impact and <br />delineation issues in new proposed project areas. <br />A2.6 RESIDENT ASSISTANCE <br /> Respond to resident questions and concerns. A spectrum of issues will come up from <br />recycling day questions to smelly ponds to tree related questions to wild animal <br />issues. <br /> <br />
