Gertens, Inc., 5500 Blaine Ave E, Inver Grove Heights, MN 55076; (for the trees only) Dream Scapes Landscaping & Design, 7087 20th Ave S, Centerville, MN 55038 (all exc. trees) Landbridge Ecological, 670 Vandalia Street, Saint Paul, MN 55114 (all exc. trees) Birch Tree Care, 3100 Spruce Street St. Paul, MN 55117 (just install trees) The first line on the September 30 letter is for “Open space plantings.” I expect that this means the trees and shrubs for the three areas, the north pond, east pond, and walkway entrance. It does not include the infiltration island. Let me know if I am mistaken on this point. The Trees: Gertens in Inver Grove Heights will supply the 45 trees, available today. They have adequate trees for between $120 and $250. There is a significant discount due to the time of year. All are guaranteed for a year. (See their attached bid) The bids for the planting of the trees come from two contractors, Dreamscapes, and Birch. Dreamscapes makes it part of their overall bid, equaling $12,984.45 for trees and shrubs installation. Birch states that it will install the trees for $300 per hour, taking perhaps 16 or 24 hours (two or three days) up to $7,200.00. They are ready to go on Monday. My attorney indicated that you may be suspect of an hourly bid. If you want another type of bid let me know and I will obtain it from them. Costs: Perhaps $6,000 for trees, depending on today's availability. Installation would cost about $7,200. Total for Trees: $13,200. (Gerten's supplies trees and Birch Tree Care installs) The Shrubs: The Landbridge bid includes the cost of the shrubs, $32 per shrub installed. Dreamscapes bid calls for us to provide the shrubs, perhaps $30 for each of 133 plants, about $4,000. Installation would be mixed with the installation of the trees, about $13,000 to install trees and shrubs. Costs: Landbridge's $32 per shrub looks best at $4,256. (Bid line item 11) Dreamscapes is probably closer to $7,000 without the trees. Landbridge may not be able to get it done this year. If that is important then we will use Dreamscapes. The second line of the September 30 letter is for “Open Space Restoration.” Natural native growth has occurred in all four physical areas. Marty Asleson stated that all areas had to be treated with Roundup and burned. I do not wish to be involved with Roundup or burning. You indicate that you can make this restoration for $15,000. I will not oppose your expenditure of $15,000 for open space restoration. Dreamscape's bid, minus work for trees and shrubs, is $14,605.29 for the seeding work, the Open Space Restoration. The third item is “Driveway Repair.” We do not have a bid for that. We will be seeking one.
