Park Board
January 7 , 1980
Page Two
1 Mrs . Liljedahl pointed out to Mr. Jesson that the main concern of this
Board was not the fact that the City did not receive the grant , but the
fact that the City was not even considered due to the classification .
There was discussion on the pros and cons of buying park land and develop-
ing existing parks - or to hold the existing money in interest bearing
accounts . Mr . Jesson felt that if the City has plans , they should carry
them out now. He felt that by not acquiring lands or carrying out con--
truction plans , money is being lost through inflation .
There was discussion on the plans for the City Hall Park, the plans , who
it would serve .
Mrs . Elsenpeter felt that in order for a grant to be considered, it should
be in the area of the greatest population . She felt that this Board
should concentrate their efforts in supplying what would be considered
by Metro Council as fulfilling the requirements .
Mr . Jesson was thanked for his time and information .
Mr. Glenn Rehbein could not be here this evening but Mr . Ken Rehbein was
present to discuss Arena Acres .
Mr . Rehbein presented a map with his proposal for the park in this plat .
There was discussion on the building of this park and Mr. Rehbein asked
if the City would maintain the park. He was told that once the Park is
completed and dedicated to the City, then the City maintains the park.
The Park Board suggested that this park be completed in the very early
stages of development . They felt it made an attractive selling point .
There was discussion on two tennis courts - Mr. Rehbein felt one was
plenty . There was discussion on the size of the courts and if there was
space enough for two and a tot lot . The Board had originally requested
several lots but had agreed to a smaller area fully developed .
Mr . Schumacher pointed out that if these are the only tennis courts in the
City , there will be a lot of outside use of these courts . He also suggest-
ed that the Park Board get very specific as to what they would like to
see installed in this park .
Mrs . Lil9edahl suggested that all interested parties get together and
come up with a specific plan . Mr . Rehbein suggested giving the lot and
some cash . The Board felt that Mr _ Rehbein could get more for his money
that the City could .
The Park Board will discuss this with Mr . SChumacher and he will negotiate
with Mr. Rehbein on what will be done in this area .
Mr. Shaughnessy moved that the Park Board recommend the acceptance of Lot
7 in Arena Acres with Mr, Ken Rehbein to construct 2 tennis courts and a
tot lot in this lot . Seconded by Mr . Scherer . Motion declared passed.
There was discussion on the park in Shenandoah . Mr . Rehbein had agreed
to grade and seed this area . Mr. Schumacher reported that Mr . Rehbein
had written a letter stating that he will grade this property and that he
did not have an agreement as to any installation of equipment ,
