at 7204 Lake Drive between the hours of 8:00 A.M. , and 4:30 P.M.
As of this writing we have available a study called "An
Evaluation of sites for the South Athletic Complex" , our
Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Plan, a wetland study that is
now with the Rice Creek Watershed District for review, a traffic
study, and a concept plan designed for feasibility reasons only.
Question 4
Wouldn't a feasibility study be a critical element before the
land is purchased to predetermine the success of such a large
undertaking and to determine the needs and wants of the general
public?
The process that we are now undergoing is the test of this site
as a viable land purchase. The process was started with the
implementation of our Comprehensive Plan. This plan was
formulated through a citizen-based committee and working with our
Parks Planning Consultant who is with the firm of Brauer and
Associates. Public information and a hearing was part of this
process. The original site as indicated in our Comprehensive
Plan was abandoned due to a higher and better use. Thus the
study alluded to in question 3 was implemented to seek an
alternative site, again with the help of our citizen-based
committee, and Brauer and Associates. A public hearing was also
held for this study. The goals and policies as stated in our
Comprehensive plan strongly emphasize community participation in
issues related to parks and recreation facilities, programs and
future development.
Question 5
Since there has been an increase in arson fires at park locations
in other cities, what fire protection is available and how far
away is it?
The recreation complex site is centered between two fire station
that are approximately 3.5 miles away. We have experienced some
fire problems in the past, but not any great increase in arson
fires.
Question 6
Will there be a community center?
As of this time we have no plans for a community center on this
or any site in the City of Lino Lakes. The concept plan that we
developed for this site has typical elements that staff thought
n would be appropriate and in need for this site. This plan was
developed for feasibility reasons only, and the ultimate facility
plan would depend on input from the community.
