n
LINO LAKES PARK AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT
RECREATION FOCUS COMMITTEE
MINUTES FROM OCTOBER 25, 1994
The Recreation Focus Committee meeting was called to order at
6:32pm by Barry Bernstein.
In attendance: Brad Erickson, Brian Bourassa, Cathy Parno, Pam
Taschek, and Barry Bernstein.
Barry started the meeting out by reviewing the last meeting
minutes. Barry mentioned that it appeared that the last meeting
was very progressive and positive. Barry mentioned that he took
what limited information appeared on the minutes and tried to
come up with ideas for each of the programs listed. Barry said
it did not make sense for the development of the programs if that
is not what the person had in mind and continued that he would
like to recap the topics for a better understanding of program
topics.
Barry led a discussion on how the park and recreation programs
are developed. When the department comes up with an idea the
program is written down on a program planning form. We try to
answer the who' s, what' s; why' s and where' s of a program. Barry
eluded to the steps that are taken on program development,
operation of each program and program evaluation. Barry liked
this format because it is easy to retrieve information on what a
program was intended to accomplish and what was actually
accomplished. Barry mentioned how we get the participants
reactions. He said that program surveys are sent out and he said
about a twenty percent return on the surveys come back to our
office. In explaining the evaluation forms, Barry said the
income was a gross income. The department takes off ten percent
of the program cost/income to pay all the necessary
administrative costs that occur. Brian brought up that the year
was not listed on this form and asked if a comparison of the
previous year could be added to the form. Barry thought that
this was a terrific idea. Cathy asked if we are still loosing
money on some of the programs because they are new. Barry
explained that in some cases this was true. Barry mentioned in
some cases that money was lost. He said in one case, adult
basketball we lost approximately $300.00. Barry said that four
teams registered for this program and we really needed six teams.
But explained that four teams were enough to operate the league.
He continued to say that because we operated the league last year
it is anticipated that more teams will register this year.
Barry asked if any one else saw on ways to improved the
evaluation form. Brian said that the forms were very helpful for
the job that Barry was doing, but Barry explained that the forms
were made to justify what we were offering and why. Further
discussion on the evaluation forms was brought up by Pam. She
