CITY OF LINO LAKES
PARK BOARD MEETING
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 1994
as much space as possible for storage areas. It was the collective
opinion of the board that there is not room to lease to the DNR at
this time, but they would like to leave the option open for the
future.
PARK UPDATES AND OTHER OLD BUSINESS:
Baldwin Lake Park - Marty reported that city crews have been
clearing the brush from the Baldwin Lake area. Crews may be able
to clear the old trees away with the chipper. This project can be
worked on during the winter on slack days.
Joe Schmidt asked about people skating on the frozen pond in this
area. He wondered if the city would be able to maintain this for
the residents. Marty commented that there are so many of these
"rinks" in the city that if the city worked on one it would create
a problem, as city crews cannot maintain all the frozen ponds in
the city.
Barry Bernstein reported that he has had good comments regarding
Country Lakes Park skating area. It is used a lot in the evening
and Rice Lake Elementary classes use it for recess during the day.
He commented on what a good working relationship he has with Rice
Lake Elementary school.
Extended Winter Ice Shelter Hours - Several months ago the park
board recommended that anyone wanting to use the ice rinks with the
shelter attendant and lights in the evening should be charged at
the rate of $15 per hour. Since that time Marty Asleson met with
NSP to determine the exact charge per hour for gas and electric.
Those costs, coupled with an attendant came in under $15 per hour.
Marty felt that perhaps the board may want to review the charges
again as the total costs at Sunrise Park is $8.50 per hour and at
Birch Park it's $7.45 per hour.
After a short discussion all the board agreed that $15 is a "fair
price" and would not recommend a change to a lesser amount.
Referendum Discussion - The idea of alternate financing and a Parks
and Recreation Referendum to finance future major projects has been
touched upon at recent goal setting sessions. George Lindy
suggested Jeff Schoenbauer be invited to the next meeting for a
referendum discussion. George would like to limit the March Agenda
to this one issue to allow adequate time for a presentation. It was
suggested that members from other city boards be invited along with
4
