CITY OF LINO LAKES <br /> PARK BOARD MEETING <br /> MONDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 1994 <br /> as much space as possible for storage areas. It was the collective <br /> opinion of the board that there is not room to lease to the DNR at <br /> this time, but they would like to leave the option open for the <br /> future. <br /> PARK UPDATES AND OTHER OLD BUSINESS: <br /> Baldwin Lake Park - Marty reported that city crews have been <br /> clearing the brush from the Baldwin Lake area. Crews may be able <br /> to clear the old trees away with the chipper. This project can be <br /> worked on during the winter on slack days. <br /> Joe Schmidt asked about people skating on the frozen pond in this <br /> area. He wondered if the city would be able to maintain this for <br /> the residents. Marty commented that there are so many of these <br /> "rinks" in the city that if the city worked on one it would create <br /> a problem, as city crews cannot maintain all the frozen ponds in <br /> the city. <br /> Barry Bernstein reported that he has had good comments regarding <br /> Country Lakes Park skating area. It is used a lot in the evening <br /> and Rice Lake Elementary classes use it for recess during the day. <br /> He commented on what a good working relationship he has with Rice <br /> Lake Elementary school. <br /> Extended Winter Ice Shelter Hours - Several months ago the park <br /> board recommended that anyone wanting to use the ice rinks with the <br /> shelter attendant and lights in the evening should be charged at <br /> the rate of $15 per hour. Since that time Marty Asleson met with <br /> NSP to determine the exact charge per hour for gas and electric. <br /> Those costs, coupled with an attendant came in under $15 per hour. <br /> Marty felt that perhaps the board may want to review the charges <br /> again as the total costs at Sunrise Park is $8.50 per hour and at <br /> Birch Park it's $7.45 per hour. <br /> After a short discussion all the board agreed that $15 is a "fair <br /> price" and would not recommend a change to a lesser amount. <br /> Referendum Discussion - The idea of alternate financing and a Parks <br /> and Recreation Referendum to finance future major projects has been <br /> touched upon at recent goal setting sessions. George Lindy <br /> suggested Jeff Schoenbauer be invited to the next meeting for a <br /> referendum discussion. George would like to limit the March Agenda <br /> to this one issue to allow adequate time for a presentation. It was <br /> suggested that members from other city boards be invited along with <br /> 4 <br />
