rti
and units per acre. Motion was seconded by John Baumann.
Motion carried unanimously. The board recommended to accept
the new formula and send it on to the council.
EARL OLSON SUBDIVISION:
Marty Asleson presented aerial maps of this particular piece
of property to the board members. There are 35 acres in this
parcel - 3 .5 acres would be for dedicated parks. There is the
possibility of 300 new homes here in the future. Marty said
that taking 10% of this property would force Mr. Olson to
change his lots to a smaller size. Marty noted that John
Miller, City Planner said that perhaps a variance could be
obtained to get the parcels down to 8 acres instead of 10.
Marty recommended the SW corner of this land would be a good
choice for a park, it's all upland, sand and soil. He feels
that this is good land and would fit nicely into the Master
Park Plan, that it may be a better park land and trail system
than a playground because of the busy traffic. Candy Toffoli
asked how Mr. Olson felt about dedicating the land. Marty
explained that as far as he knew Mr. Olson hadn't been
approached with any park dedication plans yet. Marty did
recommend that the park board take the property now as he
expects that the development of this parcel isn't too far
away. Bob Williams made a recommendation to take the 3 .5
acres now. Ken JOhnson suggested recommending to the council
that if they didn't take the land now, that they may be lucky
to get a couple of parcels later on down the road. Park board
agreed to take the land now.
FOCUS MEETING REGARDING COMPREHENSIVE PARK PLAN:
Marty Asleson reported that the council has approved $1000. 00
in funds to start the initial meeting with Brauer &
Associates to find out what direction the park board wants to
take. He pointed out the need for a park board liaison since
Andy Neal resigned, and anticipates that position to be
filled in the next couple of months. Marty feels a need for a
separate meeting aside from the regular park board meeting to
have time to discuss the key issues. John Baumann questioned
what Brauer & Associates would do that the park board hasn't
already done the past couple of years. Marty explained that a
consultant would be helpful as a tool to help acquire lands.
Also that research would be too time consuming for city
staff. John Baumann expressed that he would like to see all
boards, the city administrator and city council attend the
first meeting for their input and questions. He also
questioned whether there is a need to hire outside people to
pull all the boards together. George Lindy questioned the
average cost of hiring Brauer. Marty says the estimate is
around $30, 000.00 although some cities could go up to
$50, 000. or $60, 000.00. Ken Johnson suggested hiring a
student from a college who may be working on his thesis.
'' Lindy asked what other cities have paid. Marty noted that
