PARK BOARD MINUTES <br /> April 2, 1990 <br /> unanimously. <br /> SHADE TREE ORDINANCE/MARTY ASLESON <br /> The beginning of this ordinance reads as follows : <br /> AND ORDINANCE REGULATING THE PLANTING, MAINTENANCE, AND <br /> REMOVAL OF TREES AND SHRUBS IN THE PUBLIC STREETS, AND OTHER <br /> MUNICIPAL OWNED PROPERTY. ESTABLISHING A SHADE TREE BOARD <br /> AND ESTABLISHING THE OFFICE OF FORESTRY AS THE AGENCIES <br /> PRESCRIBING REGULATIONS RELATING TO THE PLANTING, <br /> MAINTENANCE, AND REMOVAL OF TREES AND SHRUBS IN PUBLIC <br /> PLANTING, MAINTENANCE AND REMOVAL OF TREES AND SHRUBS IN <br /> PUBLIC PLACES. PROVIDING FOR THE PRUNING AND REMOVAL OF <br /> TREES ON PRIVATE PROPERTY WHICH ENDANGER PUBLIC SAFETY. <br /> PROVIDING FOR STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS OF ALL POLICY <br /> STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS OF CARE PROTECTION POLICY <br /> CONCERNING SHADE TREES IN SUBDIVISION PROPERTIES PROVIDING <br /> FOR STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR CARE PROTECTION POLICY <br /> CONCERNING SHADE TREES ON NEW HOUSING PROJECTS. <br /> Marty stated that there is a real need for a tree ordinance <br /> like this . The city needs to work with builders and <br /> developers regarding this issue. <br /> Marty said that Anoka County is the biggest Oak Wilt county <br /> in the world. He stated that the City of Lino Lakes is <br /> n eligible to receive money from the state to help with the Oak <br /> Wilt problem. <br /> Ray Johnson suggested that the city setback requirements may <br /> cause extra damage to the trees . Marty explained that the <br /> developer has to take into consideration the positioning of <br /> the lots within the development to allow for less tree loss . <br /> As far as the setbacks Marty said that they are necessary to <br /> allow for utilities company lines , snowplowing, etc. <br /> Also, it is necessary that the developers take extreme care <br /> when clearing sites in the months of May and June in order to <br /> minimize the spread of oak wilt . <br /> MOTION: Ray Johnson moved to recommend to the city council <br /> approval of the Shade Tree Ordinance. George Lindy seconded <br /> the motion and the motion was approved unanimously. <br /> CONSIDERATION OF PARK BUILDINGS, BUILDING STANDARDS/MARTY <br /> ASLESON <br /> Marty presented the board with some examples of building <br /> sizes for various parks in Lino Lakes . <br /> This issue was discussed at the March Park Board meeting. <br /> The cost to construct a building for area parks would be <br /> approximately $75. 00 a square foot. <br /> Page 5 <br />
