PARK BOARD MINUTES
April 2, 1990
Marty discussed in his handout every park that he feels may
require a building in the near future.
George Lindy stated that at Erickson ' s Park a 700 square foot
building may be too large. Marty explained that most park
shelters are between 600 to 800 square feet .
George Lindy stated that in looking at the available funds -
can we rationalize the permanent buildings? Don Volk stated
that this handout is a planning tool for the future. The
needs for the future may change.
REVIEW OF ICE ARENA LAYOUT - SUNRISE PARK/DON VOLK.
The board received a proposed resolution supporting the
Centennial Ice Arena from the Ice Arena Task Force. It reads
as follows:
WHEREAS , the Centennial community of Blaine, Centerville,
Circle Pines , Lexington and Lino Lakes does not have access
to an indoor ice arena, and
WHEREAS , there are thousands of Anoka County citizens of all
ages living in the Centennial area, and
WHEREAS , the County has provided financial assistance to
other governmental agencies in Anoka County for the purpose
of providing ice arena facilities , and
WHEREAS , the Centennial Ice Arena facility would serve the
citizens of the entire Centennial area, including the Anoka
County communities of Blaine, Centerville, Circle Pines ,
Lexington, and Lino Lakes,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED , that the County Commissioners be
encouraged to designate at least $300, 000 of County funds for
the purpose of assisting with the Centennial Ice Arena
facility.
When the park board met in March, Ben Benson spoke about the
possibility of an ice arena in Lino Lakes, and the board
discussed Sunrise Park as an option.
Two maps were displayed to the board members. One was a
picture of Sunrise Park as it is now, and the other one was
Sunrise Park with the ice arena installed in the south west
corner. Don Volk feels that it would be best to be located
in the south east corner of the park. The reason being that
the a ballfield was just installed in the south west corner,
and irrigation system was installed.
Access to the ice arena was discussed, and Don Volk felt that
it is a possibility that Glenview Drive would be extended to
Page 6
