PARK BOARD MEETING <br /> AUGUST 31, 1989 <br /> s <br /> OLD BUSINESS <br /> Ray Johnson stated that he looked at the trails in Reshanau <br /> Lakes Estates South and is unhappy with them. Don Volk said <br /> that he spoke with Gary Uhde and he asked Don to let him know <br /> what he thought . Mr. Johnson explained that the black dirt <br /> is higher than the class 5 that was put down, and the recent <br /> rain has caused the black dirt to wash onto the trail . <br /> 7: 20 Ray Johnson excused himself from the board. George <br /> Lindy moved that Bill Nissen act as Chairperson. <br /> Don Volk stated that grading has been done at Birch Park and <br /> the final top soil was placed in the park. <br /> A small lighted hockey rink (65 ' x 155 ' ) , will be installed <br /> in 1989 at a cost of approximately $13, 200 . 00 . A pleasure <br /> rink will be constructed if time allows in 1989. Final <br /> grading and seeding will take place this fall at a cost of <br /> approximately $5 , 000. 00. The bituminous parking lot will be <br /> scheduled for installation, along with the next city <br /> improvement project. If at all possible, installation will <br /> be in 1989. Parking lot cost will be approximately <br /> r�N $6, 000. 00. <br /> The park board decided that Birch Park should remain a <br /> passive park to be enjoyed by the local residents . Area <br /> hockey associations will not be able to reserve the rink for <br /> structured hockey games . George Lindy stated that this park <br /> is so close to homes that the traffic and noise could pose a <br /> problem for the neighborhood. <br /> MOTION: George Lindy moved to recommend to City Council that <br /> the city complete a paved parking lot with curb and gutter at <br /> Birch Park per the park board' s plan and complete lighting <br /> per Don Volk' s recommendation. Also the board wishes to rent <br /> a warming but and satellite through one winter. John Bauman <br /> seconded the motion and the motion was approved unanimously. <br /> Bill Nissen stated that LaMotte Park' s landscaping is less <br /> than the park board anticipated. In Mr. Nissen' s <br /> recommendation for the park he stated that 2" base diameter <br /> trees be installed in the park. That was done, but the trees <br /> were not nursery stock. It was decided that the board will <br /> be more specific in the future when delegating landscaping. <br /> John Bauman asked about improvements at Sunrise Park. Don <br /> Volk stated that sewer and water will be installed to the <br /> warming house. There was some construction damage to the <br /> ._� park. Don stated that restoration is coming along slowly, but <br /> that will be completed soon. <br /> The park board was presented with the city attorney' s <br /> Page 2 <br />
