n PARK BOARD MINUTES October 3, 1988
2 . The Park Board is progressing towards incorporating a
recreation program, in a joint effort with Circle Pines,
Lexington, Centervill , Blaine, and Centennial School
District.
8: 35 p.m. George Linde excused himself from the meeting.
GREATER CENTENNIAL PARK AND RECREATION PLANNING
COMMITTEE/KEN JOHNSON
The City of Blaine may not participate in contributing money
towards the salary for the Recreation Coordinator position,
however they may contribute some kind of assistance from
their present staff.
Marty Asleson from the City of Circle Pines has attended
several meetings, and he states the average salary for a
Recreation Coordinator is $35, 000.
Ken stated we should have a preliminary amount by the
November meeting.
Chairman Ray Johnson wants the Public Works Department to
order signs for the Gates at our City Parks. The signs will
make mention of who to contact if the gate is not open.
Chairman Ray Johnson directed the Secretary, Laura Elken to
send copies of the Opinion Survey to David Torkilson, Parks
Director for Anoka County, and also to Margaret Langfeld,
the County Commissioner, and ask for any comments.
NEW BUSINESS
1 . Chairman Ray Johnson suggested we create a budget
regarding the forestry Department.
Don said there is a staffing problem. Its a slow process in
enabling Mike to work more in the forestry department rather
than in Parks. Tracy Urich has filled in for Mike in
places, and that is going well , but there still is a need
for additional help in the area of parks.
2 . John Bauman asked the Park Board what the process is if
we wish to change the name of a park.
He would like to see City Hall park changed to Knute Park
after a boy who was tragically killed.
Page 5
