n PARK BOARD MEETING
MONDAY, APRIL 6, 1992
recreation programs such as golf, open parks, open gym, and open
baseball . The main idea is to empower the kids to determine their
recreational needs. Marty feels the idea of getting teens involved
in a program is a good one, he's not giving up on it. He asked that
the board contact either him or Barry Bernstein if they have any
ideas or comments.
Barry Bernstein displayed a copy of the upcoming Spring and Summer
Program brochure that will be sent to all Lino Lakes residents. He
explained some of the upcoming programs. He will be trying some
teen stuff as Marty mentioned earlier. There are a total of 14
men's softball teams in two leagues, and will be at least five
teams, possibly more, in the Sunday night co-rec league. Barry also
explained that he will be adding a new twist to parks rentals this
year. When someone rents a park and pays their $20 . 00 deposit, they
will get a "Sport Grab Bag" to use. The bag will have an assortment
of game playing equipment such as horseshoes, volleyball,
softballs, etc. Brian Bourassa commented on what a good job the
parks and recreation department did last year with the softball
leagues.
Developers and Builders - Ray Johnson took this time to comment on
the large amounts of litter he sees left behind in certain areas
during and after a home is under construction. He wondered if there
isn't an ordinance or some other lever the City could use to see
that these sites aren't left in such a mess. Don Volk commented
that this is a point well taken, he will pass Ray' s comments along
to the building department.
Land Donation - Marty Asleson explained to the board that a
resident offered to donate a parcel of land to the City. The
property (approximately 20 acres) is at the end of 81st Street off
of East Rondeau Road. Marty has looked at this parcel, he thinks
it's a great piece of property, it's all upland not swamp. He
doesn't know the name of the property owner or why he wants to
donate it. Although it is out of the scope of the comprehensive
plan, Jeff Shoenbauer thinks it would be prudent for the park board
to accept the property and hold it in trust for future use, or
trade it, etc.
MOTION: Brian Bourassa made a motion to recommend to the council to
accept the parcel of property donated at no cost, for future use or
land bank. Motion was seconded by Candi Toffoli. All were in favor.
Motion carried.
Parkview Estates - At the request of Ray Johnson, Marty Asleson
looked into the easement/walking trail issue in this development.
Ray questioned whether this plat was recorded with a walking trail
5
