Park Board Meeting
Monday, March 2, 1992
Ken Johnson asked if the park board should appoint another liaison
to the joint meeting seeing that Bill Nissen has been replaced on
the park board, or would he be interested in continuing as the
?liaison Marty Asleson will contact Bill and find out.
Candi Toffoli asked about cross country ski trails at the golf
course, will they continue to keep the golf course open for that?
Don Volk added that the county does plan on keeping the club house
as a trail head.
There was also discussion regarding county funding and the budget.
Marty Asleson explained that the Regional Park is funded by the
Metropolitan Council and Bunker Hills is a county funded project.
He reports that there is a substantial amount of money available
for these projects. Don Volk explained that there are certain rules
and criteria that have to be followed in order to receive certain
funding.
Shores of Marshan Lake Update - Marty Asleson reported on the
progress of this development to this point. A letter was sent to
,M., the seller of the buildings agreeing to the price offered. This is'
ready to go to the council now. Marty explained that we are not
dealing with the developer because he had already sold the
buildings before we were aware they could be purchased, but the
seller is being fair about the purchase price. Don Volk says this
item hasn't been to the council yet because of their busy agenda.
The seller is being kept up to date and he knows our intentions to
purchase.
Picnic Shelter Costs - At the last park board meeting there was a
discussion about the purchase and construction of a large picnic
shelter. Included in the packets for this meeting were prices on
different styles and amenities that Marty Asleson had researched.
There was a discussion comparing wooden structures to concrete. Ken
Johnson suggested this item be placed on a future agenda after we
get a feel for what the comprehensive plan calls for. John Bauman
asked that when we do that, if we could get prices that would
include shelters with attached buildings - storage/bathrooms, etc.
Insurance Claim Adjustment - Marty Asleson explained the background
of this agenda item. Some time ago the Lions Club had a public
address system installed at Sunrise Park. About two summers ago
this system was hit by lightening and severely damaged. Marty
Asleson then went to the Lions Club for help to pay for the
damages, he also submitted a claim to our insurance company. The
insurance company reimbursed us for repairs, as did the Lions club.
The Lions donated $3000. 00. So the intention is to use it to
upgrade some fences and other things needed in the park. Marty
4
