PARR BOARD MEETING
FEBRUARY 3, 1992
a large shelter, what about Sunrise Park? Marty Asleson suggested
waiting on this discussion until the board takes a look at the
overall comprehensive park plan. Marty Asleson will follow up on
this and report back at the next meeting.
OTHER NEW BUSINESS:
Marty Asleson presented information on the National Youth Sports
Coaches Association. He explained that this is a non-profit
organization run by volunteers. It was started in 1981 to improve
out of school sports for youth under the age of 16. Mr. Asleson is
the chapter director.
This is a program where coaches become certified after 6 hours of
training. Both Marty Asleson and Barry Bernstein are certified
NYSCA clinicians. This program is endorsed by the Drug Enforcement
Agency and the National PTA. Coaches qualify for membership after
the certification program. The certification costs each applicant
$15.00, and coaches have to be re-certified every three years.
The city risk management company recommends the city get involved
in this program. NYSCA offers insurance coverage to the city if
their coaches are certified. Marty Asleson reports that Lino Lakes
Parks and Recreation department will have at least 50 coaches
certified with NYSCA this summer. Lino Lakes is acting as the
sponsoring agency and he is looking for volunteers to help with the
program. Certification clinics conducted by staff are strictly
volunteer and are not done on staff time.
Marty Asleson will show a film about the NYSCA program after the
adjournment of this meeting.
ADJOURN - Bill Nissen made a motion to adjourn, it was seconded by
John Baumann. All were in favor. The meeting was adjourned at 7 :55
pm•
THE NEXT REGULARLY SCHEDULED MEETING IS MONDAY, MARCH 2, 1992 .
.ram
6
