PARR BOARD MEETING <br /> FEBRUARY 3, 1992 <br /> a large shelter, what about Sunrise Park? Marty Asleson suggested <br /> waiting on this discussion until the board takes a look at the <br /> overall comprehensive park plan. Marty Asleson will follow up on <br /> this and report back at the next meeting. <br /> OTHER NEW BUSINESS: <br /> Marty Asleson presented information on the National Youth Sports <br /> Coaches Association. He explained that this is a non-profit <br /> organization run by volunteers. It was started in 1981 to improve <br /> out of school sports for youth under the age of 16. Mr. Asleson is <br /> the chapter director. <br /> This is a program where coaches become certified after 6 hours of <br /> training. Both Marty Asleson and Barry Bernstein are certified <br /> NYSCA clinicians. This program is endorsed by the Drug Enforcement <br /> Agency and the National PTA. Coaches qualify for membership after <br /> the certification program. The certification costs each applicant <br /> $15.00, and coaches have to be re-certified every three years. <br /> The city risk management company recommends the city get involved <br /> in this program. NYSCA offers insurance coverage to the city if <br /> their coaches are certified. Marty Asleson reports that Lino Lakes <br /> Parks and Recreation department will have at least 50 coaches <br /> certified with NYSCA this summer. Lino Lakes is acting as the <br /> sponsoring agency and he is looking for volunteers to help with the <br /> program. Certification clinics conducted by staff are strictly <br /> volunteer and are not done on staff time. <br /> Marty Asleson will show a film about the NYSCA program after the <br /> adjournment of this meeting. <br /> ADJOURN - Bill Nissen made a motion to adjourn, it was seconded by <br /> John Baumann.
