CITY OF LINO LAKES
^ PARR BOARD MEETING
APRIL 5, 1993
been established in the short term goals determination. There are
no funds available for a department move to this location at this
time. George Lindy commented that department staff is extremely
overcrowded and he would like to see them have enough space to
greet the public in a more professional looking setting than what
is being used now. Marty noted that the DNR has shown some interest
in leasing space in this building, but not until it would be
remodeled. The Boy Scouts are currently using this building for
storage. Marty presented three different plans for remodeling the
building, should the opportunity arise for department expansion to
it.
Project Goals - This was touched on earlier in the meeting. Marty
Alseson placed this on the agenda to raise the level of awareness
and to open a discussion of staffing/project/goal implementation.
He went on to inform the board how stretched both the public works
and park, rec and forestry departments are. Many times to the point
that one department is pulled from their jobs to help out in the
n other. Don Volk stated that the idea is to maintain what we have at
the best level we can at good and safe standards. With the
department growing, everyone is_ feeling the strain. Both
departments are trying to become more efficient but all are feeling
the squeeze.
Letter to Dan Poepard - It appears that the Forest Lake School
District has duplicated some of our recreation program offerings
and advertised them in their Spring program publication, even using
the same name in a couple of instances. Marty Asleson wrote a
letter to Dan Poepard, Director of Community Services at School
District 1831 (Forest Lake School District) pointing out his
concern for overlapping and duplication of services to Lino Lakes
residents who are in the Forest Lake School District. He requested
of Mr. Poepard that Lino Lakes Parks and Recreation Department be
allowed to program recreational services for Lino Lakes residents
at Lino Elementary School. As an example, it would have been
beneficial to program our Spring Line Dance class at Lino
Elementary, but instead we will be using St. Joe's Church and pay
a rental fee. Marty did receive a call back from Mr. Poepard, but
missed the call and has not made contact with him yet.
Joint Use Park - Letter to John McClellan - Another informational
item is this follow up to the park board special work session on
March 18. At that meeting it was noted that School District #12
sold Ed Vaughan 8.8 acres of their property that adjoins his. It
,. was suggested that perhaps the school district would be interested
in selling an additional 10 acres to the west to the City for park
4
