CITY OF LINO LAKES
PARK BOARD MEETING
MONDAY, MARCH 1, 1993
Brandywood Park Update - Mark Fitzgerald, the developer is
preparing to go before the council with the third phase of this
development so he will be ready to build in the Spring. The
agreement to fulfill his park dedication was that at the time of
the third addition here, the developer would purchase an acre to
the south (if possible) to adjoin the existing seven acres set
aside for park dedication. If this was not possible, $7000 would be
paid in cash to fulfill the dedication requirements. Mr. Fitzgerald
has approached the owners of the property in question and they do
not want to sell at this time as they are horse owners and need
that property to meet minimum acreage requirements in order to keep
their animals. It appears that right now the only option available
is to accept the $7000 from the developer and purchase land to the
south whenever it would become available.
OTHER OLD BUSINESS - Marty Asleson touched on trail issues with
the board. He talked about the costs involved in placing trails
through/over wetlands and showed a sample of a plastic boardwalk
that is being used in the eastern part of the country and locally
in the Cities of Richfield and Woodbury. This plastic material
r1 sells for about $29 a lineal foot compared to $185 per foot for
wood. $29 per lineal foot compares in cost to bituminous paths.
Marty explained that there are several other similar products
available. The board looked favorably at these alternatives to the
trails in wetlands problems, thinking this could be an affordable
resolution. Marty Asleson will collect more information on this
type of product and set this up as an agenda item for the near
future.
Marty also reported that he received a call from a resident in the
Leonard and Bradley Park neighborhood. She was concerned that the
equipment there was in poor condition, and was also interested in
a skating rink. Marty explained to her that upgrading the park was
a priority with the Park Board, and that a rink was a possibility,
but there would be no warminghouse. She wanted Marty to convey to
the board that she is interested in working with them .
George Lindy asked Linda Elliott if the council has considered the
priority list of spending the funds in the dedicated park fund that
the board had previously worked out. Linda suggested that the board
make a recommendation and move it on to the council for action.
George suggested that this should be an agenda item for the next
meeting and possibly make contact with neighbors and get them
involved so that we are sure we can offer them what they want.
Brian Bourassa volunteered to be the liaison and contact the
neighborhood residents and meet with them prior to the next park
.IIN board meeting to get their ideas and suggestions.
3
