PARK BOARD
September 3 , 1986
Page Two
- Signs arrived this week and are being installed.
Grand opening is recommended for spring because of the
timing in completing the park.
Mr. Volk is still working with the prison administration
to get a crew to the park for general brushing and clean-up
yet this fall.
Still working with the Police Department to try to assure
that park gates are locked/unlocked daily.
City crew will plow and keep open the park through the winter
for winter sports and fishing.
Next month Mr. Volk will have the final report on the LawCon
grant (funding for Country Lakes Park) and will also know
more then about the status of dedicated park funds.
PROPOSED SCHOOL PROPERTY
At the next Park Board meeting the Board will be updated as to the
status of the proposed school property for use as a city maintained
park. The City Administrator will attend a 9/8/86 meeting on this
subject with the school board and no problems are anticipated at this
time.
BALDWIN LAKE PROPERTY
The Board toured the Baldwin Lake property immediately before
this evening' s meeting with a representative from the City of
St. Paul (property owner) . The City of St. Paul is offering
this land for sale to the City of Lino Lakes and the two parties
have been writing back and forth regarding specifics of the proper-
ty for some time. The Board felt, after this evening' s tour, that
the property is about 10 acres on the lake and 7 acres of access
-to the lake (a roadway approximately 100 feet wide) and that
probably about 1/3 of the 10 acres is usable.
Mr. Flannery suggested that the City staff send a questionnaire
to the property owners adjacent to the Baldwin Lake property
to see if and how they have or would use the property. After
compiling this information, if the purchase price was reasonably,
then the Park Board could consider the purchase of the property.
Some of the Boardmembers felt that the Park Board should concen-
trate on the property it already has rather than pursue additional
'property which would create additional maintenance expense until
it could be developed.
Ray Johnson felt that if the City did purchase the property, it
should be purchased with the understanding that the City would
have the opportunity to do as they please with the property and
not be tied down to using the property only as park property.
