PARK BOARD
October 21, 1985
Page Three
ACTION REQUESTED : The Board asked that Mr. Volk get an estimate
for the cost of a wood routed sign for Sunrise Park and Country
Lakes Park and then send letters to the VFW and the Lion' s Club
asking if they would be interested in donating the signs to the
parks since the capital outlay budget does not allow for as many
items as needed in the parks . Mr. Volk agreed to do this .
The Board studied the rough draft of the capital improvements
plan which they received. This draft reflected projects in 1986
totalling *15 ,000 . Since the draft was distributed, the capital
outlay budget has been cut to $7 , 500 . For 1986 , the projects will
have to be reconsidered and new priorities set . This draft called
for updates to the tot lots at Lino Park and Arena Acres Park.
Mr. Nissen felt that the Board should strongly consider making
Shenandoah Park a priority because of the large number of children
in that area which would use ballfields , etc . He felt that the
ages of the majority of children in that area would warrant that
Shenandoah Park be developed as soon as possible--before those
children get too old to make use of ballfields , etc . within walk-
ing distance from their homes .
ACTION REQUESTED : Mr. Volk asked that each Boardmember be pre-
pared at the next meeting to finalize a capital improvements
plan.
ACTION REQUESTED : Mr. Volk was asked to find out how much money
was donated by the VFW in 1985 for park purposes . Ken Johnson
suggested that this money be used after the ground freezes to
apply a surface for an athletic field at Shenandoah Park.
It was suggested that a final capital improvements plan allocate
less money to parking lots in the parks and more to the functions
of the park.
Mr. Volk reported that in 1986 , the budget for tree inspection
became a separate item and will not be part of the park budget.
The capital improvements plan will appear on next month' s agenda
and a final draft of the plan will be put together at that meeting .
OLD BUSINESS
None.
NEW BUSINESS
Mr. Lindy felt that the silting problem in Country Lakes Park is
worse than what was reported when discussing Country Lakes Park
this evening. He felt that the Board should be concerned with
the silting problem in that it may eventually negate the time and
work done in Country Lakes Park.
