PARK BOARD
August 13 , 1985
Page Two
accomplishments were-fencing to complete all the ballfields in
Lino Lakes and some work done and to be done in Country Lakes
Park.
The Board agreed to study the rough draft and be prepared to
set priorities at the next Park Board meeting.
Ray Johnson asked about one item on the plan for a public waste
oil dumping station, and why this item is now a park capital
improvement. Mr. Volk answered that the shop currently uses
waste oil to heat the shop area and that any money generated
from surplus oil which the City collects would go to the park
fund. He also stated that he was aware that there is currently
some proposed legislation which could categorize waste oil as
a hazardous waste , in which case the City would not benefit from
collecting waste oil from the public. A decision on whether or
not to provide this service will depend upon the outcome of this
issue .
MAINTENANCE OF COUNTRY LAKES PARK
Per Park Board' s request at their last meeting , Mr. Volk is continu-
ing to put together figures relating to the maintenance of Country
Lakes Park. At present, the cost of lifeguards , insurance , etc .
for the beach area have not been completely determined. The costs
to mow, seed, etc . will be minimal .
A general idea of the costs involved will be prepared in time for
next month ' s meeting at which time the Board can decide if the
beach maintenance can be a part of the capital improvement plan
for 1986 .
REMOVING DEBRIS FROM COUNTRY LAKES PARK
At last month' s meeting , Mr. Volk agreed to contact the company
which dredged the beach area at Country Lakes Park and ask them
to remove the debris and equipment , etc . which they left after
their work had been completed. Mr. Volk asked the company to
remove everything by August 31 , 1985 or the City would dispose
of all of it .
OLD BUSINESS
Ken Johnson mentioned that with regard to property for park
purposes on the east side of the City (as was discussed at a
recent joint meeting with Council and Planning and Zoning Board) ,
he felt that there are some strong arguments for procuring some
land now rather than deal with the expense and headache of pro-
curing land in the future.
Arranging a time for a tour of this part of town to find a few
options will take place at next month' s meeting.
