City of Liao Lakes
Park Board Meeting
August 5, 1996
Trail bids have been let and the work should be done by the end
of August, first part of September. John Powell will check on
whether there will be a contractor in the Trappers Crossing area
and if they will be able to do some paving.
Marty has been working on the Trappers Crossing land acquisition.
There was some confusion on who owned the land, Roger Hokanson or
Vivian Whitcomb. He had Bill Hawkins, City Attorney, look into
the issue. Vivian is the owner. He will get an appraisal done
and then approach Vivian on purchasing that portion of land.
The Marine Corp is looking for projects that can be done in the
City of Lino Lakes . They may help pour bridge abutments in
Wenzel Farms, work on the boardwalk in Brandywood, and put a
flagpole up at the Park and Recreation Building. He is working on
a hold harmless agreement with them. Marty will keep the board
informed on this issue.
Marty is also working on a trail grant project with Michael
Krech. George told Marty that he would like to meet with him to
discuss trails .
NORTH METRO CONSOLIDATION UPDATE:
Marty included a letter in the packets that had gone out to the
North Metro Recreation communities . He explained the North Metro
Communities are Circle Pines, Centerville, and Lexington. He has
been working with Janet Bona, the North Metro Program Supervisor
on this idea for some time.
He and Janet met with the individual park boards over the past
months to introduce this idea, and so far has met with favorable
thoughts . There could be many benefits to this idea, including a
cost effective way for Lino Lakes to expand our recreation
programming staff and programs .
Marty also included copies of letters from the cities of Circle
Pines and Lexington that he received at the meeting where all
communities were present . He believes the concerns, especially
of Circle Pines, falls within the goals and objectives of our
Comprehensive Plan. Circle Pines and Lexington stated they would
wish to proceed with this . Centerville' s representative was not
10014% sure at the present time.
Joe thought this was a great idea because the communities are so
close in everything we do. The parents go to the same grocery
9
