City of Lino Lakes
Park Board Meeting
August 5, 1996
Sharon asked about a trail being put in on this property. Marty
said we should be patient and see what happens . He will keep the
board informed on this item.
BALDWIN LAKE TRAILER COURT; TRAIL, CANOE ACCESS, PLAYGROUND•
The owner of the Baldwin Lake Trailer Court has approached the
city on a proposed expansion of the court on the south side north
of Laurene Avenue. As part of the discussions of this proposal
Marty has discussed the possibilities of trail access out onto
Laurene Avenue for the residents in this park. Access to the
trail system via Linda Avenue/Linda Court in Fox Trace could be
accomplished. The residents have been isolated in this area on a
very similar parallel with the Rice Lake Estates residents .
As an additional item of discussion, the owner of the court, Mr.
Paul Howard had indicated that he has permission to run a trail
down to Baldwin Lake for a canoe access. Marty explained that
during his discussions with Mr. Howard, the idea of making this a
public trail access for canoes was somewhat a positive notion. A
'~ small parking lot located at the end of Laurene Avenue could be
provided, and an access to the trail where residents could carry
a canoe to the lake. This lake is virtually inaccessible to
canoeing at this time and is a haven for activities such as bird-
watching.
There is a small open space in the older portion of this
development where Mr. Howard is planning a small mini-park.
Perhaps we should consider working with Mr. Howard in provision
of services in Parks and Recreation in this respect .
Jeanne Keanow, City of Lino Lakes Service Officer, has indicated
that there is a need from the youth standpoint to do something in
this area. Marty thinks we can help.
George wanted to know what the proposal was . Marty said Mr.
Howard is going to build the trail and parking lot, give access
rights to the city, and the city will maintain it .
MOTION•
Paul Montain made a motion to pursue the issue because he feels
it is something worth doing. Pam Taschuk seconded the motion and
it passed unanimously.
7
