City of Lino Lakes
Park Board Meeting
May 6, 1996
After the state review process we were denied this grant request .
The new round of grants was due on May 1, 1996 . Sometime into
working on this grant he received a call from Audry Mularie
saying that the legislature did not approve dollars for 1996, and
that the grant deadline was being extended to March 1, 1997 .
Audry did inform him that they were going to recommend, to the
state legislature, that our 1995 grant be funded. This grant was
approved at the legislative hearing on April 24, 1996 .
The original grant instructions did not indicate a cap on the
amount of award, but it turns out it was $50, 000 . At any rate we
did receive the grant and it must be used before the end of 1997 .
He said we will need to find additional funds . Marty included a
copy of the letter he received from Audry Mularie on the grant
notification. An Environmental Assessment Statement (EAS) was
required within 30 days of April 12 . Marty did an EAS and sent
it to Audry.
Marty said we will have to let the City Council know about this
grant . We will also have to wait for the survey results to
decide whether to pursue the issue .
ISTEA Grant: Marty included a copy of the preliminary ISTEA
Grant that he submitted to the DNR for a matching trail grant .
He explained the grant project area was highlighted on the map.
He said since it was undecided exactly where the new roads were
to be engineered into the school, he simply drew a comparable
scenario for grant purposes .
Marty discussed this grant with John McClellan, Superintendent of
Centennial schools . Marty said we would use their dollars for
school walking trails on Elm Street as well as our investment in
the trails in the Senior Cottages and the church trail
dedication.
He also discussed this grant with Anoka County Parks as naming
them a cooperator in that we may be able to run this trail into
the regional park if the dollars work out right .
Pam wanted to know when we would hear on this . Marty wasn' t
sure. He said the preliminary deadline was May 1 . So he thought
it might be awhile.
Greenway Project Grant: Marty said this grant was for a greenway
corridor going from Hugo, connecting to the state trail, on
8
