City of Lino Lakes
Park Board Meeting
.- May 6, 1996
city, the play equipment still tended to be the predominant need
as heard by staff at the meetings .
The neighborhood was invited to a meeting on April 11, to discuss
play equipment design. Marty included a copy of the design and
cost estimates for the project in the members packets . Cost is
based on the assumption the neighborhood will help assemble the
structure. Concerns for the play equipment location in
relationship to the pond was given by residents . It was
suggested to reverse the basketball court and the play structure
on the master-plan. This does not change the concerns of the
original master-planning process . He did not see a reason why
this shouldn' t be done.
He also included a copy of the pond elevations in the packets .
He continued by saying although the pond is about 12 feet deep,
it was designed with an 8 : 1 slope and drops off some distance
from the edge . Furthermore, by switching the play structure with
the basketball court, the play structure is located basically in
front of wetland.
n
At the request of the neighborhood, we staked out the playground
equipment basketball court and painted in the trail location.
There was another scheduled meeting on May 2nd at 6 : 30pm in the
park to look at this .
The neighborhood has raised some funds that they wish to match
with the Friends of the Parks to accomplish more with the
allocated dollars . Possible additions are an additional swing
bay, backhoe diggers, benches, picnic tables, and a small
backstop for the informal ballfield.
Marty said there were two options . The first was to approve the
playground plan with contingencies placed on the additions until
monies are received into the Friends of the Parks account . The
second was to refer this item back to staff for further
consideration. Marty recommended option one.
Marty then read a letter, dated May 2, that he received on May 6,
1996 from residents in this area. He addressed several issues in
this letter such as traffic, parking, the activities location for
the park, as well as other issues .
Marty told the residents that the Park Board was the board to
make decisions on the park.
2
