CITY OF LINO LAKES
PARK BOARD MEETING
•.., DECEMBER 2, 1996
4 . The board may table the discussion and request more
information.
MOTION•
Paul Montain made a motion to adopt the policy written by George
Lindy. Pam Taschuk seconded the motion and passed unanimously.
SKATE BOARD PARKS:
Marty said this issue had been brought to the Park Board earlier
this year by Mitch Rehbein. At that meeting it was decided that
additional research had to be done on this issue. Marty and
Barry attended the MRPA Conference in Duluth and this issue was a
topic of discussion. Marty received a lot of information and
brought it to this meeting.
Marty included information from the results of a two-year effort
to build a facility in the city of Burnsville. The partners in
this effort were the students of School District 191, School
District 931, and the City of Burnsville Park and Recreation
Department . Berkley Risk Management was also part of the
conference presentation. He included their information in the
packets also.
Marty said it seems that whenever this issue has been discussed
at different park board meetings in different cities, the answer
has always been "this is a great idea" , "but" . . . . The "buts" are
all of the reasons that were brought up at our meeting that
involved liability and risk management .
This group has dissected the problems and came up with a way to
accomplish this vision. The group has had a set of plans
designed by a professional architect who has signed-off on the
construction detail . These plans are available for $99 .50 .
Marty reviewed the Burnsville skate park design proposal, their
skate park facility lease agreement, and Berkley Risk Services,
Inc. ' s information.
He told Mitch that this was something that could be accomplished
but they were going to have to put alot of hard work into it to
do it right . He is willing to sit down and discuss what has to
be done and help them as much as he can.
Betty asked if this facility was in operation. Marty responded
no. It has taken them two years to get this far.
2
