CITY OF LINO LAKES
PARK BOARD MEETING
DECEMBER 2, 1996
survey results of city sponsored park and recreation programs,
the number of people that leave the city to participate in other
recreation activities, whether residents were in support or
opposed to the concept of an athletic complex, trails, and
completed neighborhood parks, and the residents rating of
facility and park upkeep. Other items discussed were whether
residents were willing to support the development of parks,
trails and an athletic complex through a tax increase, if they
favored or opposed the development of a city golf course, and the
hiring of a teen director through a tax increase.
George asked Bill' s opinion on if the city should pursue a
referendum. Bill said this survey is one of the most positive
surveys he has seen in six months on supporting a referendum.
George then asked if the athletic complex was a mute issue. Bill
said not necessarily.
Betty asked if the survey indicated if the residents supported a
public/private community center. Bill said 78 percent of the
residents supported the center with 18 percent opposed. He also
said 60 percent supported an increase in taxes for this center
while 32 percent were opposed.
Bill told the board if they were interested in pursuing a
referendum to please contact him and he would be willing to
discuss the issue.
George thanked Mr. Morris for coming and doing his presentation.
George suggested that the Park Board coordinate with the City
Council so everyone is on the same page with this issue . He
thought there should be a joint meeting with Planning, Economic
Development, City Council, and Park Board.
BIRCHWOOD/PARK GROVE PARK - PETITIONS:
George said at the November Park Board meeting it was decided the
board would discuss the volleyball court, 1/2 court basketball
court, and the ballfield petitions at the December meeting. He
would like to limit this issue to 30 minutes and asked residents
to limit their comments to new information only.
He asked if there was anyone that wanted to speak to this agenda
item. No one rose to speak on this issue .
6
