 • Y
CITY OF LINO LAKES
PARK BOARD MEETING
.. DECEMBER 2, 1996
FRIENDS OF THE PARK DONATION:
Melissa Peterson from Birchwood Acres developed a nice fund-
raising project for the park in their neighborhood. Melissa made
a Food Amongst Friends cookbook that included favorite recipes
from the neighborhood residents . Marty explained that she has
sold enough of these books to provide an amenity that would be
non-controversial in nature, so she selected an age 2-5 year old
piece of playground equipment . He included a copy of her #1 and
#2 choices .
This has been taken to the Friends of the Parks for presentation
and they have approved this contingent upon Park Board approval .
The board needs to act on this in December since Melissa wants to
capture 1996 prices .
Marty said the options were to approve #1 donation to the Friends
of the Parks for installation at Birchwood Acres Park or refer
back to staff for further review.
Marty recommended option #1, approve this request to fund.
MOTION•
Amy Donlin made a motion, seconded by Pam Taschuk to approve the
purchase of the 2-5 year age piece of equipment . This was
approved by the Park Board.
FRIENDS OF THE PARK UPDATE:
Marty said the Friends met last week and they discussed the
Target Grant . He said they are going to be soliciting funds for
the Earth Day Celebration. They will be ordering plaques to
recognize people that have made contributions . Kim Sullivan will
again be doing a tree sale for Earth Day, with proceeds going to
the Friends of the Park.
OLD BUSINESS•
Paul, Pam and Betty voiced their disappointment in the calls they
received from residents in the Birchwood Park area. They felt it
was inappropriate to use children to make calls to the board
members .
There was discussion about the members names being published in
the City brochure. Marty told them that they approved the
printing of their names in the one brochure it was done. Marty
told them the names were not published in the brochure this time.
10
