City of Lino Lakes
Park Board Meeting
,n
February 2, 1998
suggesting that additional development might take place through
phasing. There is a strong possibility that ultimately there
will be nine rather than thirteen lots .
Paul asked how this trail might tie in with other proposed
trails . George reminded the group that initially a north/south
connection was discussed, preferably avoiding Lake Drive. Kurt
stated that the City has not yet confirmed whether or not it
wants a road installed in the area, which would present a traffic
concern.
Pam pointed out that running the trail along 35W would eliminate
any such safety issue. She also requested clarification that the
intersection south of FINA would become lighted, which would add
to the safety of a trail at that location. Given the age group
of potential trail travelers, Pam felt that safety would be
especially critical .
George pointed out that the contour is high ground along the
freeway, agreeing with Pam' s position regarding the importance of
safety.
Kirk raised the issue of crossing the ditch. George asked about
^ the distance that would have to be bridged. Kirk estimated
approximately 40 feet, adding that details regarding bridging the
ditch had not been discussed.
Paul Montain made a motion, seconded by Pam Taschuk, to pursue
the trail route along 35W.
George stated that a bridge would have to be negotiated. Kirk
pointed out that culverts along the interstate were large and
quite costly, making the concept of a bridge more attractive.
Joe pointed out that crossing the ditch would be a major issue .
George suggested that an alternative may have to be running the
trail along the south side of the creek to the point of the new
crossing.
George requested clarification of the motion to indicate the
preference to have the trail along 35W bridging the creek and, if
bridging the creek is not feasible, then run the trail on the
south side of the creek to the proposed crossing area to the
northern segment.
Joe asked if this issue must be decided at this time . George
stated that the Park Board should give Kurt direction. Kirk
added that the plat is finalized, but that the City must give
approval regarding crossing the ditch.
2
