City of Lino Lakes
Park Board Meeting
IAN February 2 , 1998
OLD BUSINESS:
Policy for Naming City Parks - Rick reminded the group that at
its last meeting discussions had been opened regarding this
issue. He provided the Board with a draft policy for
consideration and input.
Pam requested clarification of reference to naming a park after a
city service organization. Rick explained that in some instances
a civic organization, such as the Lions Club or VFW, might donate
land to the City, and that this provision would allow for naming
a park after such a group. Pam suggested that the wording of No .
5 under "Criteria for naming parks : " be changed to "Names of a
community organization" to avoid confusion with city service
departments .
Rick reiterated that the purpose of this ordinance is for use as
a guideline, and that exceptions would surely occur.
George commended the concept presented by the first provision
regarding the procedure for renaming of neighborhood parks .
Joe expressed concern that the ordinance should specify that the
proposed name should appear on a petition for name change. Rick
will incorporate that change into the draft ordinance.
George recommended that this item appear on the next meeting
agenda for further consideration. The group agreed that the
first draft is an excellent beginning.
Rick pointed out that the genesis of this project was the request
by a specific individual for renaming of a local park. Pam asked
if this person had received a response to his request, and Rick
indicated that he had sent correspondence indicating that the
Board was in the process of developing this ordinance and that he
would be notified of the outcome.
Dedicated Park Fund Balance - Rick provided a written schedule
including the current balance of $298, 498 . 08, total undesignated
funds of $112, 069. 07, and 1997 revenue totaling $70, 954 . 51 .
George expressed appreciation for the compilation of this
information.
George asked if the figures shown were current balances after
expenses for each project. Rick responded in the affirmative.
Paul asked about the Pheasant Hills balance, and Rick indicated
that the reference to 1996 playground equipment in connection
with this item should be deleted.
6
